英語では似ている意味を持つが、違う形で使う言葉が多く存在しています。

今回は"Many", "Much", "A lot of", の違いを見ましょう。

Many = いっぱい
Much = いっぱい
A lot of= いっぱい

全部が"いっぱい"と言う意味がありますが、どのように違うのでしょうか？

Many = 数えられる名詞 (Ex. pens, dogs, houses)
Much = 数えられない名詞 (Ex. water, money)
A lot of= 両方使える

水などはリットルやコップで数えます。1 water, 2 water, 3 water ではなく、1 cup of water, 2 cups of water, 3 cups of water です。
お金などは円・ドルで数えます。1 moeny, 2 money, 3 moneyではなく、1 yen, 2 yen, 3 yenです。
なのでこのような名詞は数えられない名詞としてのグループに入ります。

例文を見てみましょう。

Many = 数えられる名詞 (Ex. pens, dogs, houses)
Ex. There are many pens on the table. →　テーブルの上にはいっぱいペンがあります。

Much = 数えられない名詞 (Ex. water, money)
Ex. There is a lot of water in the sea.　→　海の中にはいっぱい水があります。

A lot of= 両方使える
Ex. There are a lot of pens on the table.　→　テーブルの上にはいっぱいペンがあります。
Ex. There is a lot of water in the sea. 　→　海の中にはいっぱい水があります。

多くの人が"many"と"much"を使い間違えますが、"many"と"much"を使わず、いつも"a lot of"を使えば、間違える事はまずありません。
